What does it mean to be BORN AGAIN
Being born again is JESUS plan of salvation. In the scripture below JESUS tells us we cannot SEE the kingdom of GOD unless we are saved/born again. To be born again means to be saved. John 3:3 (Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.)
What should we be born again of? Water and of the Spirit John 3:4 (Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.)
Now we understand from the above scripture if we want to enter into the kingdom of GOD we MUST be born of water and of the Spirit. Jesus said without being born again we cannot see or enter the kingdom of God. In other words, we cannot be saved.
“What shall we do to be saved?” Acts 2:37-41
37Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. 40And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. 41Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
Something I would like to point out from the above scripture, in verse 37 we see the unbelievers were pricked in their hearts. What pricked their hearts? The preaching of JESUS, when Peter preached to the crowd the preaching of the cross pricked the hearts of the unbelievers. At this point, they wanted to know “what shall we do to be saved”
Repentance is necessary for being born again, there are many who are teaching that repentance is NOT necessary for salvation. This is very dangerous and false doctrine. When a person truly repents, he dies out to his own will, renounces it forever, and vows to live from that time on according to the will of Jesus Christ.
Baptism is necessary for salvation as well. Romans 6:3-5 3Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Infilling of the Holy Ghost According to Acts 2:38 to receive the Infilling of the Holy Ghost we must Repent, be baptized for the remission of sins and then we shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
What happens to those who doesn’t know GOD OR to those who doesn’t obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ? 2Thessalonians 1:7-9 7And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
So isn’t it enough to believe on JESUS then we will be saved? Many have taken Acts 16:30-31 to teach all that is needed for salvation is to believe that Jesus Christ is the savior in order to be saved. It is definitely true that an individual must believe that Jesus is the Savior in order to be saved. However, Paul, who spoke these words in Acts 16, has some further teaching on the subject in Romans 10:13-15.
Now that you are in Christ you should become a new creature 2 Corinthians 5:17 all of the old sins you enjoyed should pass away. In other words you will not enjoy what you did in your prior life. Christians are brand-new people on the inside. The Holy Spirit gives them new life, and they are NOT the same anymore. We are not reformed, rehabilitated, or reeducated—we are new creations, living in vital union with Christ Colossians 2:6-7. We are not merely turning over a new leaf; we are beginning a new life under a new Master.
We see the necessary steps to obtain salvation/eternal life through Christ Jesus. My question to you is does your life reflect this new perspective? Have you been born again? Are you still a slave to sin? Please use the word of GOD to discern your heart/spirit. There are too many in the body of Christ who doesn’t understand what it means to be born again, to walk in the Spirit and not fulfill the lust of the flesh. It is vital that the body of Christ understands God’s plan for salvation so we can move past the elementary teachings and become disciples for Jesus.
